Happy young travellers jumping for joy on a beach

This just in from the wonderful Carvalho family from Brazil:

We arrived here not knowing to expect, it was a wonderful surprise. More than helping we learned a lot in the Starfish Educare project. It was an awesome experience to be with all the people we met here, especially all the lovely kids from the school. We think the Starfish is very important in there, because the kids have an opportunity to receive food, love and to learn a lot from the teachers and with each other. We thank God for all the people at Starfish that gives their time to help these children. And we thank Volunteering Cape Town for this opportunity and for having us at their house.

I came to cape town for 3 months volunteering at Pollsmoor Prison and also with James House in Hout Bay. Both have been great experiences where I have been able to learn a lot whilst hopefully making a bit of a difference to people’s lives as well.

Staying with Jonathan has been really good. Having my own room gives me space to relax and a shared kitchen, bathroom and living room with TV and a fireplace to enjoy in the evenings. Plus an amazing view which you can never get tired of.

I met lots of people through both of the projects and also through Jonathan who has been a very welcoming host, inviting me to church, braais and going for walks with the dogs.

There is plenty to do in Hout Bay and easy access into Cape Town by bus to get to all the touristy spots. 3 amazing months which have gone so quickly!

I had 7 wonderful weeks in Hout Bay,Cape Town. For six weeks i did a social internship, where i worked with children from the Townships of Hout Bay, which was alittle bit exhausting but also very fun and rewarding.

I lived in Hout Bay in a house with my host and another intern. The house was great, i had my own room and bathroom there and we even had a swimming pool. My host was also very nice. He provided transport for me and even took me and the other intern to a trip to Cederberg.

After my internship i took a journey along the magnificent Garden route. I highly recommend coming to South Africa especially Hout Bay , i had a wonderful time there and would absolutely do it again.

If you want to have a great holiday and participate in some amazing volunteering opportunities then Volunteering Cape Town is the place you want to book!

Jonathan Stilwell is very welcoming and is involved in a number wonderful projects that volunteers will be spoiled for choice.  That would include the activities in and around Hout Bay and Cape Town that one can do in their off time.  Hout Bay is a great jumping off point for a lot of great fun.The rooms and the property are very nicely located, with a stunning view and pool along with a great host.  The property is located in the beautiful Hout Bay valley but still near enough to iKhaya lethemba that there’s no long travel time, speaking of which, Jonathan even provides the transport. You will be glad you booked with Volunteering Cape Town and we look forward to meeting you at iKhaya!

I realy enjoyed my stay with Jonathan and Volunteering Cape Town. The building itselfes gives you a real holiday feeling. In the beautiful valley of Hout Bay I got to know various amazing places. To volunteer in the Townships Chindergarden was truly a valuable experience which I don’t want to miss. I appreciated the helpful support from Jonathan in different ways as a local guide, driver, friend, host dad and even english teacher! This delightful memories will remain for a lifetime.

No matter if the house was full or if nobody was around, it never got boring. All the major sights from Cape Town and the Cape Region were easily accessible for short weekend trips and if you didn’t feel like going out there was always the option of watching Netflix on the couch or playing with the two lovely dogs Jack and Blue. Not to mention the awesome view over Hout Bay that you got from the terrace and the garden. All in all a great place to stay for an unforgettable time in South Africa. I love Africa and will visit again!

I volunteered at the Animal Rescue Project for 2 months and it was simply AMAZING. The are over 200 dogs at the shelter and they all need love. When you give it they give so much back. I spent the days walking the dogs on the farm, accross the meadow and down to the river. Walking dogs, under the bluest sky with such magnificent scenery around, was just sublime. I also went on a Garden Route trip on the BokBus – I got to meet and touch the elephants – Africa’s biggest land mammal, such gentle creatures. My stay exceeded my wildest expectations!
